17th-Oct-2006 11:21 am - lj issues?
I'm not getting emails when people reply to posts or comments, and a couple of times recently, comments have errored out and needed to be resubmitted.

Is LJ having problems? Anyone else notice anything? [info]news doesn't seem to say anything about it.
3rd-May-2006 10:50 pm - poor Six Apart
In case you were wondering what happened to LJ yesterday and today, it was a sophisticated distributed denial of service attack.

Except that isn't the whole story. From Q Daily News via [info]mjlewis we learn that the attack wasn't aimed at Six Apart, but instead was aimed at a company called Blue Security.

Because according to a post on the North American Network Operators Group mailing list, at some point yesterday the people at Blue Security decided that the best way to deal with the attack was to point the hostname www.bluesecurity.com to their TypePad-hosted weblog, bluesecurity.blogs.com. This effectively meant that the target of the attack shifted off of Blue Security’s own network and onto that of Six Apart, and did so as the direct result of a decision made by the folks at Blue Security.

Basically Blue Security, known for controversial antispam tactics, dumped all their shit on Six Apart, and that brought down Typepad and LJ and the rest. Nice one, guys.

This is awesome, if not quite the first time I've seen something in that vein.

9th-Feb-2005 06:27 pm - high risk blogging
Interesting LA Times oped about the experiences of a blogger who got arrested for criticizing the state in Iran. I'm impressed that she was willing to write about it, even under a pseudonym, given her experiences.

I also like the amusing ironic twist at the end.
2nd-Jan-2005 10:57 am - lj etiquette question
So I think people in the Poker Community might be interested in my results post. What's the etiquette on crossposting? I'm a little hesitant to just post it there, since people who read via their friends page who have both me and the poker group on it will get a long post twice, which is not what they want.

On the other hand, I could just post a link, but that feels a little like advertising my blog.

Or, I could just not tell those people anything at all. :P
5th-Sep-2004 01:56 pm - and so it begins...
I have considered, from time to time, creating a blog. This is an experiment to see if I will actually update it, ever. If as I suspect I update it for a while, then stop, at least then I'll know.

The two major things that interest me that I expect to talk about are politics and poker.
